The Junction City Historical Society has announced the acquisition of several early 20th-century municipal maps believed to chart portions of the city’s forgotten steam tunnels.
Archivist Benjamin Cote described the find as “a vital piece of urban history.” He noted that two of the maps bear hand-drawn symbols not seen on other city documents.
The society plans to restore and display the maps during its winter exhibition. “They raise more questions than they answer,” said Cote. “And that’s what makes history exciting.”
