Historic Church Closes Amid Declining Attendance

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, a fixture of the North End for more than a century, held its final service Sunday before closing its doors indefinitely. The congregation’s numbers have dwindled in recent years, with only a dozen attendees at the last mass.

Reverend Paul Hinshaw cited “changing demographics and financial realities” for the closure. The Diocese has not announced what will become of the building, though preservation advocates have voiced concern over its future.

Longtime parishioners say they hope the church isn’t demolished. “It’s always been a beacon,” said member Ruth Avery. “But lately, it didn’t feel as warm inside.”
