The city’s Department of Public Works confirmed an expansion of the SmartStreet lighting project into the North Industrial Zone. The upgrade replaces older bulbs with energy-efficient LEDs equipped with motion sensors.
Officials claim the new system will deter crime and reduce maintenance costs. However, several workers have reported “false triggers” that cause clusters of lights to strobe for minutes at a time.
The city’s IT department attributes the malfunctions to software calibration, though no errors appear in the central control logs.
