Councilwoman Dana Leigh introduced a proposal for a temporary midnight curfew in select downtown districts following recent incidents of vandalism and missing persons. The measure sparked heated debate during Tuesday’s session.
Supporters argue the curfew would help “restore order” after a spike in late-night emergency calls. Opponents claim it would unfairly punish business owners who rely on nighttime patrons.
The motion will return to committee for review next week. “We can’t legislate fear,” said Councilman Heller. “If people feel unsafe, we need answers—not restrictions.”
